Not the case: 'Throat closing' is a symptom for many disorders including  severe allergic reaction, but won't be the only symptom, can it happen in theory, may be, but in real life, severe allergic reaction, anaphylaxis, usually has other associated symptoms too, can be depressed respiration, reduced blood pressure, wheezing, or the rash and swelling of soft tissues (angioedema).etc. keep epinephrine shot handy

Throat Closure: Flu symptoms can make you feel quite ill... if you really feel like your throat is closing and your airway is being restricted, then by all means go to the hospital. If you are just suffering from a common cold, no need to worry.

Throat closing up: If you throat seems to be closing up and is accompanied by wheezing, difficulty breathing, etc - you could be having an allergic reaction.  This warrants medical assessment.

Serious, or not...: The cause of this sensation have a variety of causes.  If it is associated with difficulty breathing or asthmatic breathing, as seen in an anaphylactic reaction to something and potentially fatal. More likely, it is an exaggerated form of anxiety or a symptom of hysteria, in which the muscle in the pharyngeal area go into muscle spasm. Or an abnormal form of swallowing where muscles are dyskinetic.

Sticking sensation: IF you are referring to the sensation of food or liquids getting stuck in the throat, this is known as a globus sensation, is very common, poorly understood, and not dangerous. If you are referring to a problem breathing, you may have an intermittent allergic reaction that could be serious. May want to sort this out with a primary care doctor. Hope this helps!

Not sure: Inhaling foreign substances irritates the respiratory system. Are you allergic to any of the substances being inhaled?  If my throat felt that way, i would stop using the hookah.
