Follow MD 's advice: Each surgeon had individual preference  to prepare the bowel ,during  preoperative time. Do not break the preparation protocol . Poorly prepared colon will  result higher complication rate , like post OP infection etc. Speak to your surgeon.

Usually not.: Fasting is recommended when checking cholesterol and sugars.  These aren't standard blood tests associated with colonoscopies.

pain returned with 2x2" swelling above 2 wk microdiscectomy incision. when compressed it causes same preop radiculopathy pain. what could cause this?

Swelling post op: If the bulging feels like fluid, it could be a spinal fluid leak, which is a known risk of spinal surgery. You should contact your surgeon.

it has been six months since my appendectomy and i still have yet to gain my weight back. 155 preop, now at about 130 and still have digestion issues?

Need some evaluation: It's unusual to have ongoing symptoms this long after appendectomy, if it was uncomplicated.  If it was complicated by perforation or abscess, it may take some time to get back to baseline. However, you should see your primary doc for further evaluation to be sure nothing else is going on. Make sure you see the pathology from the appendectomy too!

See below: Pre-operative bowel preparation is used for colon surgery or possibly in gynecology pelvic surgery. It is a combination of clear liquid diet, drinking laxatives to clean the colon, and oral antibiotics to reduce the bacterial count in the colon. This is done to reduce risks of infection or help improve colon surgery safe healing.

Prep whipple surgery: I think the most important topic to go over with the anthesthesiologist is the PostOP Critical care Managment. Specifically extubation vs. keep you intubation postoperatively.

Excellent question!!: I only know of 2 small studies (netherlands and us) in which mammaprint was evaluated in a pre-op setting.  A "high risk" category was predictive of a pathologic complete response (desirable). I believe there is at least one ongoing trial (mint i) and maybe more studying that question.  For now, microarray tests are used in the post-op setting for er+, node negative patients in routine practice.

Pre-op heart murmur: Careful listening can detect additional sounds, technically called "murmurs" , which may occur just because of a more rapid heart beat associated with natural apprehensions associated with "pre-op testing".  Prior to your procedure, an anesthesiologist will also generally listen and evaluate this sound, but usually it is not of pathological significance.

what tests are used prior to knee replacement surgery? what kinds of diagnostic and pre-operative tests are done prior to knee replacement?

The : The first elements in diagnosis are a history and physical examination.  Severe arthritis typically presents with pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function of the affected joint.  An xray is taken to evaluate the level of arthritis.  No other testing is needed.

A knee replacement is done for pain relief, and should be done only after a full discussion of the risks and benefits of surgery.  In general, it's worth trying medication, exercise, and activity modification first.  Also, a short course of physical therapy is often very helpful in restoring function.
