i am having headache for a month and did mri several small and non-specific leukoencephalopathic foci on the left. cerebral hemisphere. small (~3 mm) saccular aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery (acoma). hypoplastic aca syn. retention cyst?

: Visit a local neurosurgeon and have this aneurysm evaluated.  Although NOT of a large enough size to cause concern of imminent rupture, this may need future intervention.  None of what you describe is causing the headaches, but you are lucky the images were done.

does blood flow from the anterior communicating arteries to the anterior cerebral arteries?

Not exactly: The flow to the anterior cerebral starts at the heart, goes up the ascending aorta, to carotid arteries which reach the Circle of Willis, and go to anterior cerebral, middle cerebral and posterior cerebral arteries.  Anterior communicating can be viewed as a bridging collateral.

is a more robust posterior communicating artery on right then left worrisome or normal?

Accepted Answer

Not usually: I'm assuming that you are referring to the posterior communicating artery providing blood flow to the right side of the brain.  This is usually a congenital (inborn) change and does not usually produce problems in normal patients.  Take care and stay healthy!

Congenital: If that is all that was revealed on an imaging study, there is no reason to be concerned about intracranial or brain disease.  This has nothing to do with your migraines, or ptsd, and is most certainly, a congenital variation you have possessed your entire lifetime.

: If you know where &amp; how to feel for a pulsating artery in the temple region it is normal. Whether it is normal or worrisome in any individual would depend on factors not provided in this post. This can be part of an exaggerated pulse seen in some medical conditions.

Radio graphically : It must be distinguished from an aneurysm . It is a small dilitation, usually funnel shaped, at the origin oh the posterior communicating artery from the internal carotid artery.

Accepted Answer

There: are various normal anatomic variations in this region, and small PCAs are a common one. It simply means that these arteries are underdeveloped...relatively small in caliber...compared to other arteries around the Circle of Willis region.

It's most likely: your sigmoid colon (the last portion just above the rectum) Not to worry!

Hard to say: Need to know size of lesion and whether it is invading any structures. If it is not huge and pet is accurate, could be stage 1.

Normal variant : Keep blood pressure at usual level your doctor recommends. No smoking. Control weight and blood sugar. Exercise.
