the back of my knee hurts when running?

Knee pain: This can be related to "wear and tear" arthritis, meniscal stress/tears but usually there is a history of trauma, or rarely, especially if there is a mass behind the knee related to a baker's cyst. Stopping running for a short period to see if it resolves can be helpful information. Primary care and/or sports medicine is appropriate if you are a person who really wants to be able to keep running.

Knee pain: Knee pain is a common complaint that affects people of all ages. Knee pain may be the result of an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage. Medical conditions — including arthritis, gout and infections — also can cause knee pain.

Thus I would recommend seeing an orthopedic physician

Could be: It is most likely osteoarthritis but it could also be a knee injury.  See your doctor for a physical examination if it doesn't improve or get worst.

Uncertain: This is not clear, but it is unlikely arthritis and more likely bursitis or tendinitis. When you get your evaluation besides examination you have imaging and x-rays and possibly other studies to help clarify.

i flipped and fell in gym 2 days ago and my whole thigh and knee especially hurts a lot should i see a doctor? i was running in gym and a boy pushed me. i flipped in the air and fell to the ground and my whole thigh hurts and knee hurts when i touch it. m

Without : Without an examination, it would be hard to determine if additional tests, such as an x-ray are needed.  From what i can tell, you are a young person and probably pretty healthy.  If your joints, i.e. Knees, hips can move fully, in other words you can bend them, without much pain, and your leg is not grossly deformed and you can walk, my guess is that this is a contusion, i.e. Bad bruise.  You may have some minor swelling and discoloration or scrapes.  This will get better with some moist heat.  Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin will help with the pain.  However if there is deformity, significant pain when moving your knees or hip and you cannot walk, then you should see a physician and x-rays are likely to be done.

lateral knee pain for 6 weeks after running, but not during. treated for itbs, but not healing. something else? rested and cross trained. i did pt and strengthening too. stairs hurt and walking fast, but doctors say looks good structurally.

Heat/ ice pack: I presume you have tried ice pack then heating pad.  Have you tried NSAID?  It is also possible that you may have ended up with knee injury  or just the beginning of osteoarthritis.  If the problem persists or gets worse, it is best to consult an orthopedist.

Patellar tendinitis: You appear to be describing a classic case of patellar tendinitis. A common overuse type injury tht is almost always amenable to nonoperative treatment. Static quadriceps stretching usually helps resolve this complaint. Nsaids such as motrin, naproxen, or advil (ibuprofen) can also help. If no improvement after several weeks arrange for an evaluation by your physician.

Treadmill: Good arch supported shoes, ice, rest, less incline and speed on the treadmill, using a good quality treadmill, adequate warmup, cool-down, and stretching.
