is it normal that my testicle is still swollen 4 months after my hydrocele surgery?

Accepted Answer

No: It's hard to comment on a surgery i wasn't present for
in general, the swelling goes down after about 6 weeks
at 4 months, talk with your surgeon about whether you should have an ultrasound.  
Sometimes, hydroceles come back pretty quickly
other times, there is a large hematoma that takes a long time to dissolve.

my son 4,5 years old has diagnosed with communication hydrocele in testicles. no pain, only swollen not very. is necessary surgery or we can wait?

Could wait, but: The risk of waiting is that a hernia could develop and in kids this can easily get trapped(incarcerated) and then become an emergency situation. Also, communicating hydroceles very rarely close on their own, unlike non-communicating ones where you can actually sit and wait and hope they go away. So you really are probably delaying the inevitable ad risking incarceration and an emergency situation.

: Sometimes it takes time for the area of surgery to become normal . It should happen in 8-12 weeks. If not see the surgeon again.

: It is not unusual for scrotal swelling to take 3 or 4 weeks to resolve. Fluid may recur after aspiration of a hydrocele, but surgery usually is a permanent fix. If you're not sure of your postop status, see your urologist for evaluation.

Safe: A hydrocele is a collection of fluid in the scrotum around the testicle, and are fairly common. In newborns they usually go away. If present in an adult, they are usually painless, but depending on the size may creat some discomfort. Surgery is the usual approach and is very safe and straightforward. As with all surgery, one has the risk of bleeding, blood clots, infection.

Torsion?????: Go see a doctor immediately. This needs to be evaluated. If your primary doctor not available ( weekend); go to er asap.

: If it is small and not changing over 3-6 months or longer and you are sure of the diagnosis, then it does not require any surgery at this time. Communicating hydrocele is  the one which increases in size. Small fixed. hydrocele usually does not affect testis 10% of newborn male infants have a hydrocele which clears ,  only 1% of adults men have it and will often disappear. Hope it  helps.

Tissue edema of rest: In "bottle" hydrocele repair the sac is turned inside out and sutured behind testis. This can become swollen and hard and take a while to soften up. Same with coiled remaining sac in the "lord repair. Sometimes hydrocele can recur. Be patient, most cases slowly resolve with time, which can vary greatly.

Testicle Pain: Follow up with your surgeon. This may be a post op complication or could be an infection not related to the surgery. Either way it needs professional evaluation.  Good luck, don't delay.
