PT consultation: I would advise a formal consultation with a certified physical therapist however, it is doubtful that PT will lengthen these muscle fibers.

is it weird to be able to contract the tensor tympani muscle?

Unusual: It is unusual but many people have the ability to isolate this muscle and activate it separately from the other muscles of face and mastication.

pulled muscle in my upper arm. should i wrap it with a tensor bandage to add some support and/or a little pressure, and should i ice or heat it?

Accepted Answer

Timing is important: If your injury is within 48 hrs, ice & bandage it -- do not heat, to minimize swelling/injury.  After 48 hrs, it doesn't matter, but heat would be preferable after 48 hrs to improve blood flow to area, help healing.  Compression with a bandage is not needed unless there is swelling to be prevented.

Reducing scar tissue: Scar tissue massage after gently heating in tub or shower, with a creamy lotion, will gradually reduce stiffness.  Massage should be relatively deep and slow, going different directions -do circles, lines, opposing lines, sideways to original direction.  5 minutes 2 to 3 times a day over several months is normal, may require more if deeper thicker scar.  Don't rub until red or irritated

you are quite young so it is not likely polymyalgia rheumatica

It's possible : Gabapentin is a neuroleptic agent. If taking it unlocks your spastic joints then by definition you have some kind of neurogenic spasticity. There may be other treatment modalities such as intrathecal baclofen pump that provide controllable spasm prevention

i have calcaneal stress fracture right where my plantar fascia muscle connects to heel. been on crutches 4 months. could it be something else?

How the diagnosis did was done? Mri or bone scans?
Mri is the best available.
If those think were done seek second opinion.

Possibly: Or it could be the muscle itself. An osteopathic physician (D.O.) can often help with evaluation and treatment, as well as licensed massage therapists.
