Timing is important: If your injury is within 48 hrs, ice & bandage it -- do not heat, to minimize swelling/injury. After 48 hrs, it doesn't matter, but heat would be preferable after 48 hrs to improve blood flow to area, help healing. Compression with a bandage is not needed unless there is swelling to be prevented.
