No: Fingers will not swell as a direct result of tennis elbow. However if the pain on the elbow stops you from using your hand they may get stiff and swollen. So if you have tennis elbow make sure to keep all parts of your arm and hand moving.

Certainly can...: As it causes local inflammation even though "tennis elbow" isn't really an inflammatory process. It can irritate the subcutaneous nerves and you compensate with your shoulder and wrist and they become sore.  Treatment typically with wrist brace to rest the tendons, ice massage, and ideally a cortisone injection with pt. Nsaids don't work because it is a necrotic phenomenon not inflammatory.

Get a nerve study: It sounds as though you may have a nerve entrapment in your forearm
i would get a good orthopedic exam and you may ultimately need an ncv  study.

Not clear: Pinched nerve in the neck can cause arm and hand pain, numbness, weakness. Tennis elbow typically causes elbow pain and weak hand grip. It is unclear where you were injected. Your doctor should be able to sort out whether this is a neck/nerve problem, or an inflammation of the elbow.

had a diagnosis of tennis elbow in my right arm while working on my computer. a week later my left arm became affected. 6 weeks with ot and physio and now im told they don't know what i have. my fingers now tingling and wrist/forearm pain too. help!

Nerve or muscle. : By your description of symptoms, you may have something related to the muscles of the forearm or the nerves going down to the forearm. If it's a nerve issue, it could originate at the elbows or from the fingertips, traveling backwards.  Regardless, it seems that you need some blood testing and perhaps an MRI of the elbows.

Need workup: With multi- joint involvement i would recommend a rheumatologist be your next consultation. This may be a systemic immune issue and proper diagnosis is important.

Steroid Injections: That is how steroid injections work. The 24 to 48 hours after an injection can hurt worse then it did prior to the injection. But, then the anti-inflammatory nature of the steroid works and the pain diminishes. Normal.

i have a throbbing pain in my elbow that comes and goes. it's quite painful, and i did not injure my arm nor have tennis elbow. what could cause this?

Many things are part: Of the elbow, thus many things can hurt too. Bone, tendon, joint, nerve, blood vessel, skin all can be a source of pain. Tendonitis is a common cause, as is ligament or joint irritation . But the take home answer is anything that gets a nerve supply ( which is everything) can be a source of pain. Hand surgeons can offer diagnosis &amp; rx for this very complex region.

is it possible for a tennis elbow to cause my hand to go numb occasionally?

Accepted Answer

No: Numbness is an indication of nerve irritation or entrapment.  Tennis elbow is a tendonitis.  You may have carpal tunnel or another similar nerve entrapment syndrome.  I recommend that you consult an experienced hand surgeon.
