A common problem: Most postoperative patellar tendinitis is "self-limiting" and tends to fade away during the course of the necessary rehabilitation for your new ligament. Stretching, icing, NSAIDs, and motion or often all that is needed to make the tendinitis go away.

Yes there are: Depending on how active you are, there are other alternatives....
Obviously if you are very  active, surgery to repair the injury is the first choice. Otherwise anti inflammatory medicine, omega 3 fish oils, glucosamine chondroitin, as well as physical therapy would be of upmost importance. I always instruct patients to utilize the most conservative options first.

Absolutely: Just as they are with any surgery risks are inevitable. These may include but not be limited to bleeding, pain, scars, loss of motion, injury to surrounding structures, failure to provide the intended benefits which is to reconstruct your anterior cruciate ligament. There are also risks of anesthesia including heart attack stroke pneumonia and death.

Good options: Acl reconstruction at your age is a good option if you have knee instability. Only a small percentage of patients (copers) do well without surgery. Micro fracture at the same setting to address small cartilage defects is fine, but an oats procedure maybe better, where. Cartilage plugs are harvested from another area of the knee and implanted to the affected area. Check with your surgeon about it.

Hard Work: 80% of the outcome is dependent on good post-op therapy.  Early active range of motion, weight-bearing as tolerated usually at first.  Strengthening with closed chain exercises can start within the second month.  By 4 months, it is possible to return to competitive sports if the therapy effort has restored 80% of thigh strength.

Typical protocol for: Me is bracing in hinged brace.  Dressing off at 4-7 days and then you can shower.  Stitches out at 14 days.  All the while therapy in the brace and wean out of brace 4-6 weeks once quad strength has returned. Crutch use typically is done by 2-3 weeks.  Then pt 2-3 times a week until about 2-3 months.

Walk before run: Typical ACL rehab protocols allow walking starting the day of surgery.  Depending on your surgeon's practice you will likely be limited by a brace in the beginning that keeps your knee straight - walking on a peg leg.  When you regain strength in your quad muscle, the brace can be unlocked.  At 6wk follow up, the majority of my patients are walking with relatively normal gait.

Depends...: Check your surgeons post-op protocol and/or check with your physical therapist. Together they will be able to answer specific questions about your exercises and recovery.

how to get screw removed after acl reconstruction surgery?

Accepted Answer

Unnecessary: Screws used in acl reconstruction are either absorbable (which means the body will incorporate it), or non absorbable. A nonabsorbable screw is typically buried in bone and doesn't cause damage to surrounding tissues. If it really needs removal, we must ensure the acl reconstruction has matured completely. Waiting a year after reconstruction before removal is preferred.

what happens if you do not get therapy after an acl surgery?

Accepted Answer

Many things: You will have a prolonged rehabilitation process, perhaps more pain and swelling, perhaps loss of function and a poor outcome.  You may heal, but you will not heal as well as with the therapy and may not  be able to do what you would like down the road.  Work with your doctor and therapist to be all that you can be without joining the militatry!
