2 seperate: Most probable cause is you had some minor localized reaction to the blood draw (possible contact dermatitis if you had a bandaide on the area or tape, etc.) and the TB test below the site of the same arm, would not have anything to do with the injection site of the blood draw. i have completed a 9mo. isoniazid treatment for latent tb, and just took a quantiferon gold blood test, which came back positive. is this normal?

Symptoms: Watch for signs of TB, follow up with your physician. A chest image may be indicated to document that there is a normal chess x Ray. The test documents exposure to the bacteria.

Mgt: I would recommend that your physician test your sputum for TB, perform another skin test for TB. Other screening tests such as a complete blood count can be performed at the time of your visit.

Latent TB: An interferon gamma release assay like quantiferon is a improvement over the old TB testing.  A positive means you have been infected with TB but may or may not have disease.  A chest xray is the next step to see if you have any lung involvement.  In addition an exam to rule out any lymph node or other involvement is needed.  If exam and x-ray are normal you have what is termed latent TB infection.

It depends upon...: If it is thought that this was a recent exposure (within 2 years) or you have risk factors that increase your risk of reactivation of the TB like diabetes, silicosis, abnormal cxr and on immunosuppressive meds.
