allergic to all pain meds my dr s prescribed.  diagnosed with scatia. tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok but pain is still chronic.  help!!

Sciatica: Sorry you have back pain.  It is very unusual to be allergic to every pain medication your doctor has given you.  I suggest you return and discuss options not involving pain medications such as physical therapy, steroid injections, perhaps a visit with a pain specialist or physiatrist. There are also medications that may help with the pain such as Elavil, neurontin, Lyrica (pregabalin) and others.

You : You can usually add a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (if you don't have NSAID allergies).

Adress the causes: I don't think meds are the best approach (though they can help if you have migraines). Most ha's are related to stress/muscle tension. I advise relaxation techniques like meditation, stretching/yoga, exercise & adequate sleep. Magnesium (esp. Taurate or glycinate), b vits, tulsi tea, ashwagandha, massage, acupuncture and classical homeopathy can all help. Sensitivities to common foods may trigger.

As Opiate: Tylenol 3 contains Tylenol and codeine and as Codeine is an opiate it will show in urine as opiate

Tylenol (acetaminophen) #5 is...: Tylenol #5 is a nonexistent item. Tylenol #3 has 30 mg of codeine, and #4 has 60 mg of codeine, but there is no #5. Both #3 and #4 contain 300 mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol). It is not recommended for adults to take more than 60 mg of codeine at a time... which may be why there is no Tylenol #5.

Likely not: depends how many days before the test the Tyl #3 was taken.

Probably not: Opiates typically clear from a urine drug screen in 2 days.  But if you are a slow metabolizer, or  are on other medications that inhibit metabolization, it may last a few days longer.

None: I've never heard of a patient experiencing withdrawals from either of those medications.  The only thing i can think of might be a recurrence of pain if you have been taking either of them for awhile.

4-5 days: It usually takes 4-5 days for narcotics such as codeine to get out of your system and be undetectable on a drug screen.
