do inversion tables make you taller by decompressing your spine and stretching out your knees, albeit temporarily? if used it daily would i be taller?

Generally, you are a: 1/2 inch  taller in the morning compared to the evening due to changes in disc height as a young adult related to its biomechanical properties and the effect of being upright through the day and then lying down at night which an inversion table can possibly mimic if on it long enough but not by any changes through the knees and it will not make you taller than you would be if measured in the am.

See below: The table can provide symptomatic relief.  This is the pro.  The con is that is may lead to a stroke due to increase blood flow to the head.

is running (preferably long distance) ok with lower back pain/stiffness (not during run, of course) in terms of core strengthening? or should i just stick to alt. back stretching & strengthening which seems like it might (slowly) be helping?

: Stretching and core strength are important to a runner. 
Pay special attention to hamstrings.

Low back pain is one of most common ailments we see. If you can not improve it on your own , defiantly seek out your MD.

Muscular features.: As stretching helps it is likely this is muscular pain.  Mid upper back ache is often posture related.   Heat, stretching and Ibuprofen may be helpful, but if it persists you should see your doctor and get a chest xray.

NO, however...: I know of no evidence that stretches increase growth. Most men stop growing around age 18 but some will grow until age 21 or so. Taking measures to increase your production of growth hormone is far more likely to help than stretches. Probably not: The most common cause of nerve entrapment is scar tissue. Inversion table won't help. Seek help of a pain specialist or urologist.

Yes: Yes, but a few simple procedures can minimize the risk. You can wipe down the changing table with a baby wipe or cleansing cloth, and then place a changing pad, small towel or blanket on the table before you lay your child down to change their diaper.
