Why do you ask?: If you've been prescribed thyroxine by an evidence-based physician, you're risking your life if you do not comply -- and beforehand, your quality of life will not be pleasant. Your libido / fertility issues are probably separate from any thyroid issues not clinically obvious. Two health problems of young man that ruin it and get missed clinically are prolactinoma and hemochromatosis.

Replacement: To my knowledge thyroxine does not lower estradiol, nor does if affect testosterone aromatization. Is your thyroxine replacement helping you? What are the problems you are  having with testosterone? Please give me some more information and I will try and resolve some concerns.

i am a 70 year old man who had rai treatment 30 years ago. replacement synthroid (caused palpitations) i eventually at this age have had an incidence of afib. er labs were at first tsh 1.34 . most recent .15 do i reduce meds from 175mg?

: Please talk to the doctor who is prescribing the medication. It is generally prudent to consult the dose of medication with the doctor who prescribed it.

Potentially: hundreds of other meds might interact in some way with Synthroid. Your doctor can run an interaction check between Synthroid &amp; your other Rx's.  In general, however, if you take Synthroid 2 hours after and 1/2 hour before meals, other meds, mineral &amp; fiber supplements and antacids, you will avoid most interactions with Synthroid. i took 2 synthroid pills @75mcg each 10 1/2 hrs apart. what will happen? im worried?

: Call your physician for instructions &amp; advice as to when to resume usual dose. .  You may experience some jitteriness,palpitations from acceleration of your heart rate,sleeplessness,tremors,loose BM's but symptoms will dissipate gradually but if symptoms are severe notify your physician for advice or proceed to the ER.

i accidentally took 2 synthroid pills this morning . i normally take 1 pill at .075 . do i need to worry ? should i be concerned ?

Double synthyroid: Prob no worries but would check with your Dr. in AM who knows you the best.

i just seen my synthroid expired 13 months ago. i have been useing it for sometime now. will it still be effective i wonder or make me ill?

Accepted Answer

It will not be 100%: effective. Most prescription expiration dates are estimated to be two years from when it's manufactured. So if your Synthroid expired in March 2016, meaning it was manufactured in 2014. So in 2017, it may be only 50% effective. Since it's important to know if your synthroid is effectively treating your hypothyroidism, it's best to use Synthroid that's in date.

each morning before i take my synthroid i feel very bad and about 1 hr after taking it feel good. why is that? does it wear off by the morning?

Possibly,..: Everyone metabolizes medications differently, and in your case, your symptoms are what they are, so it is possible the meds are waxing in the AM.  Try talking to your Dr. and maybe taking the meds at Noon or even in the PM hours may help decrease the feeling you get in the AM. Best wishes.

i'm taking 1 tablet daily of 125mcg synthroid, which was changed up from 112 mcg synthroid. what can i do with the 112mcg synthroid so that i'm not going to waste them? i was thinking that i can take 2 of the 112mcg synthroid in place of the 125mcg?

: No, that will be too much Synthroid to take 2 x112 instead of 125 mcg as prescribed, will be almost twice the dose. Talk to the pharmacist about best use of your remaining 112 mcg pills and take for now the 125 mcg pills as prescribed.

Hypothyroidism: When thyroid hormone is low people symptoms are highly variable from person to person. Some people do not have symptoms from mildly low thyroid hormone. Symptoms depend on degree of deficit and amount of time the hormone has been low. Here are some symptoms that are possible; fatigue, constipation, weight gain, cold intolerance and dry skin.
