Increased blood flow: The stimulation of the hot food and moving the lips while eating causes increased blood flow and some dilation of the blood vessels in the lips, causing the increased redness and swelling. As long as the redness and swelling resolves soon afterward, this is not a serious situation.

Allergy: people,can develop allergies at any age. Quit eating chicken until,you see an allergy specialist and get tested. These reactions you describe can get become much worse with repeated exposure.

lip balm allergy?: Removal of a small blood vessel tumor many years ago should not be the cause, but consider certain food allergies, or even allergy to lip balms which is quite common.

Oral surgeon: If you see your dentist, he/she will refer you to an oral surgeon. If you see your MD, he/she will refer you to an ENT doc.
I would recommend seeing an oral surgeon first. Oral surgeons see far more of these things than any other doc. Expect a biopsy to diagnose lesion.

It May be Serious: You need to stop eating these foods and see an allergist for an evaluation. You may be very allergic to something, either the food itself or possibly a preservative. Any time you have swelling and difficulty breathing it could be very serious and if an allergy could lead to a potentially fatal reaction. You should have Benadryl (diphenhydramine) with you at all times and take it right away if you get swelling.

Depends: Most of these self heal and the saliva has antibacterial properties that make meds unnecessary. If the bite crossed from the fleshy red vermillion of the lip into the normal skin &amp; this lies open, it may need to be stitched together to preserve the proper alignment of those two tissues.

Trauma: They will likely heal within days.  The swelling and bumps are likely from too much suction.
