Common reasons: A fifth toe can hurt include a painful corn or bursitis caused by friction. The shoe sometimes is too tight or too big. Gout can cause pain to any joint.  Neuritis can be another cause. Look on the underside of the toe and check for any cracks in the skin. A consultation with podiatrist is good idea as you may warrant an x-ray if pain persists.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor. However, gout needs to be excluded in a male with big toe swelling and pain.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

See below : As you described this is an intermittent problem that occurs at various different areas. I would see a dermatologist and therefore he can do a thorough history and physical exam . Try to see him when you have the problem good luck thank you.

lost my balance earlier today and almost immediately small toe became extremely swollen, entire toe and about 3/4 of an inch past the joint at the foot is bruised, unable to move toe and tip of toe feels tingly...any idea what is going on with my toe?

Some fracture...: One does not indicate cause of loss of balance: Accidental trip, Dizziness, changing position ...? The bruised/ swollen foot/ toe could have some fracture ( displaced or non-displaced). Best way to know what's gong in is to see the PCP for physical examination and imaging if indicated , &amp; appropriate management. The earlier might be better.

Get at the cause: See your doctor for an evaluation.  X-rays and/or lab tests may be necessary to diagnose what exactly is going on.  It sounds like arthritis, and there are many different types of arthritis.  If it is at the base of the joint, and there is bump on the side, it could be a bunion.  See your doctor for a more specific answer.

Healing: The healing process for most surgical wounds is 6-8 weeks. The inside part is usually around the same, but obviously variable. I would suggest calling your surgeon to find out for your case. May want to bring you in for a follow up exam as well. Time heals all wounds...              Hope this helps!

You should see: a doctor to figure out why it is swollen and numb. Do you have an infection? an injury? is it an arthritic condition? why the numbness? these are all questions that in person exam would help figure out.

i hit ankle two weeks ago still swollen and painful now my little toe on same side is starting to feel numb what is wrong with ankle and toe?

Sore toe: There are many nerves that help to innervate the little toe.  Since you have swelling to the foot/ankle there might be additional pressure on a nerve that gives your little toe sensation.  Elevating, use of compression dressing and ice may help.  I would recommend you go in and see a doctor.
