i fell on the stairs and landed on my left knee and foot. now the side of my foot hurts a lot, if i need to walk on it the pain is like 9/10. it's also very swollen around the lateral malleolus. does it just need rest or do i need a doctor?

: If you can't bear weight and it is very painful you will need an x-ray to see if there is a fracture.

Swollen Ankle: Swelling around the ankle can be from a variety of conditions. Recent injuries, such as sprains, can cause swelling. Tendinitis (inflamation of tendons) can cause it. In addition lower extremity swelling can be from heart or kidney problems as well.

just got out of cam walker for lat.malleolus frac. but the medial side of my foot is what really hurts.it's swollen. is  just bc of atrophy of muscle?

?: Many times in a fx such as ur's a medial ligament tear goes undiagnosed soooo u need a 2nd opinion from an ankle specialist. A tear may have been overlooked. Depends upon if this is the case & if 2 long since injury a primary repair may not b an option but if u r 2 far out, a reconstruction will b required. Seak out a good ankle surgeon, orthopedic.

just started full weight bearing in aircast boot 7 wks post # tibula back malleolus no surgery. v painful and swollen at inner ankle joint. is this ok?

The air can be : Adjusted in the boot,is the foot wrapped up? If its wrapped up you would want to see the docto have them unwrap it to see if your skin is intact or if you possibly have ulcerated the skin....and to possibly take xray to check on the repair

Physician: At this point, you should probably go to your treating physician for a treatment plan.  Long term problems are hard to predict from an online description.  If you did not get treated (not sure of your history), please contact your pcp for a referral.  Best of luck.

Stabiize  ankle: The lateral malleolus or distal fibula create the outside constraint for the ankle joint. It is estimated that about 15% of the body weight passes through the fibula. An intact fibula is important for normal ankle function.

See your doctor: Eithe see your podiatrist or orthopedist to be placed in a cast or surgical treatment of this condition before the fracture gets worse and you have a more serious problem that will need to be attended to.

Ganglion cyst.: Most likely is a ganglion.It is benign and should not be concerned about it.

Treatment Possible: I assume you mean a little chip in the ankle. The chip could indicated that a ligament was pulled from the lateral malleolus. Treatment would depend upon finding on physical exam. An active ankle brace could provided some stability while the injury heals. It also may be treated with a short-leg fracture boot.  Finally at some point you may need some physical therapy.
