Insect Bites: Your bumps are most likely bug bites but to be sure of the diagnosis you need to be seen by a dermatologist. Treatment would be topical prescription cortisone like clobetasol.

Itchy rash : Could be insect bites or contact dermatitis.  Could be scabies so best to get them examined to know what will help you.

See doctor: Have it evaluated right away, assuming no trauma, he is either suffering from a clot to the leg or an infection called cellulitis. Either way he needs prompt attention.

From your description, the insect bites may have caused an allergic reaction.  Other possibilities include Lyme disease, is there central clearing of the reddened area? I would advise seeing your PCP, but a topic 1% Hydrocortisone cream may help to decrease inflammation.

As with... : ...Most things on the skin,  a doctor needs to actually look at  this to see what it is.  It could be bites,  or it could be an infection of the skin (something called impetigo).  If it's getting worse and spreading,  see your doctor.

i have 3 swollen lymph nodes in my left groin for 5 days as well as strain in hip/ groin from 6 mile walk 3 days ago. also have 3 insect bites on same leg within last week.

Common: Those lymph nodes screen out the serum contributed by events from that leg or nearby skin. Bug bites could easily increase their size from resting to enlarged. The cycle lasts about 3-4 wks before they shrink back. If they develop nearby redness or continue to swell they may have true infection &amp; need treatment. The strain would have nothing to do with it.

It could be : try leg elevation, cool ice water and topical hydrocortisone three times a day, add antihistamine as well if not improving see doctor

Control the itching: The body reacts to bites as an immune response. This reaction causes swelling.   Controlling the itching will also help.  Scratching makes them worse.  One home remedy is to apply vinegar to the bites.  This actually neutralizes the toxins causing the reaction.  Rest the legs.  Keep them elevated above heart level. Hose with  at least 20 mm Hg compression up to the knee will also help.

INSECT BITES: Best to use insect repellent when outdoors.

If you do get insect bites, use Caladryl lotion to reduce the irritation and itching from the bites.   Try not to scratch them open as this may introduce Staphlococcus bacteria into the skin and cause a skin infection.
