Hidradinitis: The most common form of armpit swelling comes from lympn gland involvement either from an infection of nodes or metastasis from chest or arm primaries.
Another cause is hidradenitis where sweat glands in the armpit get secondarily infected and can produce marked swelling .  Here antibiotic therapy is employed.

? lymphedema: I presume that you mean your arm is swollen.  If the surgery is extensive, the lymph channels can be injured  during the process.  Many times they will heal with time. --the condition is called lymphedema.  Compressive sleeves, and special massages help.

If the swelling is happening at a particular time in your menstrual cycle, it may be due to change in the size of the axillary tail of the breast.  It would be prudent to see a doctor. Various things: Lymph nodes enlargement can be caused by various reasons- among them would  include- infection ( especially in the arm pit- infection of the root of the hair is common), inflammation, wound/trauma/scratches etc, malignancy - for instance- spread from adjacent organ like breast, or lymphoma etc.  Infection would be the most common, see your doc and have yourself checked.
