Post Operative Care: It would be advisable to communicate with your surgeon  before engaging in strenuous activities. Your surgeon has the most complete knowledge about the details of your operation and is the best person to advise you on any aspects of post-operative care.

Accepted Answer

Depends why: There can be many reasons why there is swelling..
Infection?  Perhaps antibiotics
immune system reaction?   Sterioids
hormonal problem?  Homoral evaluation and assess cause and treatment.

Local treatment with cool compresses may temporarily help...If not any infection.

Weeks: Most will be gone by 2 weeks but can take longer.

Accepted Answer

Days: The majority of the initial swelling will diminish over the course of a few days.  However, you will still have some residual swelling that could take several weeks to go away completely. If you are having increased swelling or long term residual swelling, then i recommend going to see your board certified plastic surgeon for a post-op exam.

Usually 9 months: I typically inform my patients that it will take somewhere between 6-9 months for the vast majority of the swelling to resolve.

will breast swelling go down after taking birth control for a little bit? i don't want to stop takin it but i will if this doesn't subside.

Possibly: There are many different bcp's of different composition which have different side effects. Tell your doc and he can go over the diffenent pills and different effects that you might expect. You have to communicate with him. Don't rely on telepathy. That's just for the movies and Si-Fi.

i had an injury to my upper left rib cage. painful to breathe ,cough move.. the injury caused bruising along the side & swelling in breast. 3 weeks later it feels much better but after laying down i have very painful pressure. is this normal?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, and physical examination. If your symptoms are improving, you may watch and wait. You may take acetaminophen for pain, no more than 3 g/day, no alcohol. If the symptoms are not improving, it would be prudent to see a doctor.

I think this is: a symptom to be investigated. But if your OB/GYN examined you and did not feel a mass, this is reassuring. It could be simple skin dermatitis or eczema or a sensitivity to chemical irritation (soap/detergents) or dry skin. If there is any question, an ultrasound or mammogram may help. There is a worrisome condition called Paget's Disease of the breast that must be excluded. Good wishes:)

Uncertain: This can't be diagnosed with the information that is available. A history, physical examination &amp; other studies may be needed to determine cause/causes.

Hard to say: Swelling can be due to inflammation, allergic reaction(any new lotions/soaps? any itching or rash?) infection (usually painful when pressed), trauma/injury (anything of that nature?) 
   Any breast changes/pain that could be related?  If no trauma/pain/fever  you could try warm compresses &amp; perhaps an antihistamine for a few days &amp; see Dr if no change
