First 2-4 weeks: The majority of the swelling will go down in the first 2-4 weeks after surgery. However, some small amounts of swelling can last several months. It is usually best to wait at least 6-8 weeks before buying that new bra.

2 Months: The vast majority of swelling after breast reduction surgery will dissipate within 2 months after the procedure is performed. However, the breast will continue to change during the first 6 months to one year after the procedure was performed.

Breast Reduction: The major swelling secondary to brest reduction surgery usually settles within the first month but the breasts continue to settle as the scars settle over the next 5-6 months. If patients have had liposuction of the axillary area along with the breast surgery then further adjustment occurs within the first 3 months.
