i have a benign thyroid nodule. i have an appointment withthe endocrinologist in three weeks. i have swelling in my body, severe muscle and body pain and discomfort in chest. what are my options?

Benign nodule: Your symptoms are most likely not related to a thyroid nodule, esp if benign. Hypothyroidism can cause the symptoms you describe but could be evaluated with a simple blood test. If the endo does not find a cause, see a good internist. You may want a concurrent visit since you are in such discomfort.  Hypothyroidism is easy to treat by a good internist as well.

?costochondritis: This may be an inflammation of the joint between the sternum and rib which results in pain and tenderness to the touch. ?Any history of injury or strain of this area? Try cold applications for a day or two and then switch to intermittent heat. Nsaids like ibuprofen,if you can take them, should help. See your Physician if there is a true lump or if symptoms persist.

what might be going on and where should i seek help? off and on i get very tired feeling after doing simple exercises like climbing stairs or walking in hilly places. i need to stop and rest, not breathless or chest pains. no swelling anywhere?

: You start with your regular doctor who can decide if your issues are within their area of training and experience. If not, they will know who in your area would be the best source of referred care.

: If you have no fever or symptoms, it may be fine, but consider a non invasive tattoo. There is a risk of infection with a tattoo. Update all vaccinations, including Tetanus.

i have a heart condition and i was wondering if i could get a tattoo on my chest right on top on my heart?

Define it: "Heart condition"??? EXACTLY WHAT??? The location of the tattoo is of no significance. Do you have a valve deformity in your heart? There is a risk of ENDOCARDITIS if you get a tattoo when there is valvular heart disease. Also note that tattoos fade with time and that MOST people with tattoos regret it in later life. Much better to use non- invasive, temporary art on your skin.

why do some women get chest tattoos instead of insert after mastectomy?

Both!: Most women who have a breast operation that sacrifices the nipple not only get reconstruction of some kind, but they also get a fake nipple made.  This involves a minor skin operation, which raises up a nipple-like bump, and a tattoo.

i am a kidney recipient. however, i have keloids on my neck and chest. is it possible that i can get a tattoo?

Accepted Answer

Recommend against it: Even if you were not a kidney transplant recipient, if you have keloids, getting a tattoo can trigger keloids to form at the site of the tattoo.  In addition, since you are going to be on anti-rejection meds, you do have a higher risk of developing skin infections.

is it safe to get a tattoo on arms or chest after double mastectomy?

Never safe: It is your body do what you want, but majority of physicians will dis courage you to the tatooing due to inherent potential  risk of getting infections like hepatitis, hiv, syphilis, serious reaction to the metalic pigments, which also preclude you to get a MRI in future. You can not be blood donor for at least one year. If you decide to have reconstructive surgery , tattoo will be distorted.

Keloid hx vs tattoo: NO! Injuring the skin will only exacerbate the potential of keloidal scars!
