Potentially: Yes, potentially there could be other structures involved.  An MRI or ct scan of the area would likely give further information.

Tailbone: Bu tailbone i assume you mean the coccyx. These are painful and if you have noted swelling then there has to be some inflammation. Please see you doctor for help, in the meantime use ice.

i have been having recurring pain and swelling from my coccyx area for about three years. i was wondering would exercise reduce the swelling? and is there a way i can permanently stop the injury from happening again?

: Coccyx fractures are frequently difficult to heal, and may even result in "non-union fractures", which when exercising can cause bone  on bone inflammatory response, with swelling.  Obtain a referral to  an orthopedic MD for appropriate imaging and treatment recommendations.

Need to get routine: A routine exercise and stretching program should really help. If your hamstring muscles are tight, that will tilt your pelvis and may be adding to back fatigue and muscle irritation. Just as important is a regular light exercise of walking, biking, swimming or other cardio for 20-30 minutes daily. Lastly a strenghtening routine - like pilates will really help.

i have had sharp pain near my tailbone for nearly a week now. there is no swelling or pus. it hurts little bit when i try to sit back. what shud i do ?

If you fell down...: ...You may have cracked your tailbone, which is easy to do. No real treatment other than tincture of time. If there is no history of injury to the area, you could have an infection - the most common is called a pilonidal sinus - which often requires antibiotic treatment, and sometimes a minor surgical procedure. If the pain persists, see your doctor or a dermatologist.

Coccyx: Once the coccyx is injured or inflamed it remains tender for days, weeks or months. Avoid sitting on hard surfaces, use padding. Hopefully your coccygeal symptoms won't be long lasting. See an orthopedic specialist as needed.
