Head to the ER: Otitis Externa can be very painful &amp; debilitating. You might want to resubmit your question with what "meds not working" - as there is a difference between fungal and bacterial treatments.  Also, you want to ensure that your tympanic membrane does not become more inflamed. If it's so bad that you can't sleep, I'd suggest going to the ER to be evaluated, probably your best bet. Hope you feel better

Ear pain: Recommend that you see two practitioners.  See ENT for ear/throat evaluation.  See Dentist for oral evaluation.  The first thing that has to be done is to rollout infection.

Yes: You don't tell us your symptoms for needing to put sweet oil in your ear canal. It is safe as long as there is no perforation (hole) in the ear drum. Usually sweet oil or mineral is used to combat dryness and itching.  If you are a q-tip user inside the canal, please stop.

No oils: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages &amp; exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke &amp; other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose  with mucous but this often ends as congestion &amp; produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline &amp; suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment &amp; this will happen less.

No no no: Unless you are trying to make a salad in your ear keep oil out of your ear. Speaking of salads in your ear there is a role for white vinegar at times. In the case of chronic bacterial or fungal ear canal infections the vinegar can acidify the ear canal. Bacteria and fungus do not do well in the presence of acid like vinegar. As a general rule leave your ear alone. If your ear bothers you see ent.

Maybe External Otiti: If your ear hurts when you manipulate your ear, it is probably external otitis--i.e., infection of the external ear canal, usually caused by a scratch while cleaning.  If so, you may be able to treat it at home by instilling a 50:50 solution of alcohol and vinegar.  The acetic acid in the vinegar kills the bacteria and the alcohol will keep the ear dry.

Yes: See a doctor and have the issue properly evaluated and treated. The home therapies you are tried are generally not effective.
