i got a pre assessment on friday for my gallbladder surgery how long after will it take to go in for surgery ?

Depends , where: In USA  for elective surgery  pre OP anesthesia evaluation for surgery is done same day to up to a wk  before surgery as lab data is available   , Pre OP medical clearance with in a month. In  USA Patient has the choice and you pay for it ( dearly )  In  UK you have to go by the book speak to your doctor when  is going to be your turn in the big line ( remember you don't pay anything from pocket )

is there any surgery that can shorten your torso?
something like spine removal surgery? or is there something else? (without risk/benefit assessment)

Accepted Answer

No: There will never be a surgery to shorten a normal torso, but we know the rule is, "Never say never."  It's unlikely that there will be a procedure to make a normal person's torso shorer, but for older people with damaged intervertebral discs or with collapsing vertebrae, we actually hope for better and better technology to fix those problems and prevent those patient's heights from decreasing.

why do i need to see a radiation oncologist before plaque surgery if i've had a physical exam within the past few months?

"Plaque therapy": Is usually used in oculr melanoma, the placque being radioactive cobalt. Usually an ophthalmolosits and radiation oncologist work together, and in many states, only the radiation oncologist is licensed to handle radioactive material.

saw surgeon due to bulge in scrotum. upon physical exam only, he feels this is a hernia and proposes robotic surgery. is it possible that this is a spermatic cord lipoma and not hernia? if so will the cord lipoma be corrected during such a surgery?

May need to go to ER: If you have been told that you have a tumor and it is causing these kinds of symptom, you need help. If this is a tumor that you know about, it could be affecting nerves in the neck or spinal cord. This is a possible emergency.
If the pain is severe you need to go to the er. The hospital might be able to get you covered by medicaid.

Chemo-, Radiation Rx: In general, we have three tools to treat any cancer: surgery, radiation rx and chemo rx.  To answer this question accurately, it would be most helpful to know what type of cancer you are referring to; however, in general, if we cannot surgically remove a tumor, we often try and shrink it with chemo and/or radiation rx.  Sometimes, after this treatment, we can then surgically remove the tumor.

What king of surgery: What kind of surgery and how long after is it . 

10 pounds is little more that a gallon of milk so put it in perspective. How you lift is also an issue. 

Check with the surgeon.

Accepted Answer

Depends : It really depends on how the pterygium surgery was done. As a general rule, you should avoid heaving lifting, bending over and straining, to minimize the risk of bleeding post-op for 1 week. Your eyes should also be kept dry. You may also need to wear a shield to protect the surgical site. Ask your surgeon for more detailed post-of care instructions.

how could i make sure i won't be awake during surgery?

Speak with: Your surgeon or anesthesiologist.  If it is general anesthesia, you will be asleep.  If you have epidural, spinal, or regional anesthesia, you might be a little awake, but even then they will give you enough sedation or amnestics so you won't remember much if anything.

: By UPTODATE: small chalazia often resolve without intervention over days to weeks. Patients with persistent lesions should be referred to an ophthalmologist for consideration of incision and curettage or glucocorticoid injection
