Not likely.: Bruxism, or continual or repeated grinding of teeth, is a serious problem that can lead to dental problems, jaw problem, muscle disorders involving mastication (chewing, and using jaw), TMJ syndrome. Wearing a guard at night to avoid clamping teeth down during sleep, is one approach to this significant problem. Muscle relaxation, and any approach leading to relax these muscles is important.

Visit you dentist: Call your local dentist and find out he or she caters to apprehensive patients.  The longer you wait, the larger the cavity becomes to the point you may loose your tooth.

Hole: A hole in a tooth.  Bacteria take sugars, convert them into acids, and the acids etch the calcium out of the tooth's enamel.  This allows other bacteria to penetrate into the softer dentin, and eventually into the pulp (nerve) of the tooth, creating an abscess.  As the nerve endings in the pulp chamber are attacked they send a pain signal.  The infection can then spread throughout your body.

Sedation: Your problem of anxiety is very common.  Tell your dentist and ask if he can help with something to help with your anxiety for the visit or sedation.  If your dentist cannot help,  ask for a recommendation to a dentist who does use sedation.Speak to your dentist and ask for a prescription for a mild sedative.

Depends on severity: Depends on size, extent of invasion and tooth destruction, location on the tooth, and the choice of restorative material.  Dentist will anesthetize tooth, remove the infected tooth material, and place a restoration.  Dentists do this all day long every day and are quite skilled at the procedure.

It's easy: The dentist will make you comfortable, numb the tooth, remove the decay, and put in a filling.  Many people tell me the worst part are the dentist's cornet jokes.  You will be very pleased at how easy this will be for you.  Don't worry.

Noooo: Cavities need attention well before that stage.  You want to get dental intervention to arrest the problem.

Overnight: Usually good with todays filling in just a matter of hours, but certainly safe if you wait overnight.

Lot less now.: When i grew up, every body seem to have cavities.  I remember seeing the dentist weekly, it seemed like for years. Having cavities, to me, seemed like a normal part of growing up; by the time i was 20, i was more silver than enamel-:).  It seems today that it is unusual to have a cavity, so my guess is zero to one.

Fear of needles: There are some techniques used to treat cavities aith lasers and filling material without need for injections.  Contact the dental schools in your area and ask about laser treatment.
