Lot less now.: When i grew up, every body seem to have cavities. I remember seeing the dentist weekly, it seemed like for years. Having cavities, to me, seemed like a normal part of growing up; by the time i was 20, i was more silver than enamel-:). It seems today that it is unusual to have a cavity, so my guess is zero to one.

Hard to say: In my clinic i see a lot of medicaid children with decay, but there is no reason why an 8yr old should have no decay. In my office i would says 4-6, but not sure about the national average. I think it should be less than that maybe closer to 2.

Not a contest: An 8 year old should have no cavities/fillings . If your child's a problem, it would be wise to see your General Dentist, or a pediatric dental specialist, a Pedodontist, to find out why and address the cause(s).
