Boil: This may be an abscess that started as an ingrown hair. Warm applications help bring it to head. It also could be an infected cyst.Consult your physician if there is worsening pain,tenderness or swelling as it may have to be lanced.

It could be innocent harmless one or it could be something bad needing immediate attention. Things like a cyst called sebaceous cyst coming from a hair follicle, dermoid cyst  all are harmless .This like a lymph node,cancerous tumors are possibilities

: With bony lump, you mean a hard lump? Depending on the size, is it hidden in your hair or it looks obvious.?  Is it growing in size? Does it pulsate with your heart rate. If answer to any is yes, then please see the doctor for excisional biopsy. Probability of this lump being lipoma, cyst, or other benign lesion is high, so good luck. Hope it helps.
