my son is two and a half and is on a waiting list to be evaluated for autism. we have noticed for the past almost two months he has been doing this air swallowing/ gulping . we seen online about aerophagia. we are concerned?

: I know it could be concerning and sometimes harmful some of the pastimes in autism; however the best thing to do may be to distract him with alternative activities that may be beneficial when he starts such activities like aerophagia. A more engagement approach may help him so that he is less likely to device activities for himself.

You may have : Reflux and not have symptoms of heartburn . Do consult with your physician so he may try  you on some medications. Allergies abd sinus conditions may be an issue , too.

when i gulp air or drink or eat, within a few secs, i hear left side of the stomach gurgling. happens often, esp when hv anxiety episodes. stool daily, always long but sometimes a bit softer than usual. is there a blockage in my colon causing sound?

: Rest assured, if there were a blockage, you would not be having normal BMs. The gurgling may result from the air you have swallowed or from liquids moving. Try to gulp less air, and chew your food thoroughly. Gas from foods can be relieved with OTC gas relievers.

: Such noises ate the movement of air you swallow/carbonation released, and gasses created by gut germs feeding on intestinal debris. As collections of these plus fluid move, they will make noise. By itself it is a normal activity, not a disease.  To decrease this, avoid carbonated beverages, take some probiotics &amp; keep a food diary to identify foods that aggravate the issue.

Bad GERD: Sounds like you have acid from the stomach coming right up into your mouth - GastroEsophageal Reflux Disease - GERD.  This produces symptoms as you describe.  Treatment is simple - an over the counter PPI such as omeprazole will work wonders.  Real question is why this is occurring - should see doc to straighten this out.

: To me it is not dangerous for a short period but anything against the nature should not be abused because it may affect your natural hearing, just by common sense.

It may be you: Perhaps this is a perception on your part and not the environment unlikely you are one of those in  "the walking dead " tv series.  I suggest that you consult an ENT doctor to check out your upper airways and sinuses.

No: Syphillis is not spread in the air like a flu or cold. Transmission requires direct contact with the germ.This can be as it passes mom to baby in her blood, thru a tainted blood transfusion(they test it to avoid that) &direct contact with sores during sex or other contact.
