Vein?: If the stenotic vein is severe enough to affect health, you would more likely have left sided pain, swelling in the arm, bluish tint to the fingers. Symptoms you&#x27;re describing might be associated with a stenotic ARTERY (especially if there is &quot;steal&quot; syndrome).  If it is the vein that has been stenotic, one can trust the decision not to treat, but could also expect spinal xray series or mri check

No: You won't be able to distinguish it from normal tissue unless it's engorged or has a clot in it.

Probably not much: The clot inside of your subclavian vein should be quite sticky unless it is very new. The chance of dislodging the clot with exercise is not zero, but is very small. The consequence of working your arm may be more swelling which will improve when you raise your arm above the level of your head.

Avoid catheters.: It sounds like your vascular surgeon is planning on placing what is sometimes referred to as a "necklace graft."  Regardless of their location, and if placed by an experienced surgeon, grafts carry a much lower risk of getting infected than catheters. With this lower risk for infection, people with grafts generally live longer than those with catheters, so catheters are a last resort.  Good luck!

hx of dvt 2000, pes 2004, l subclavian vein clot 2006.  all idiopathic.  now hematologist suggesting lifetime warfarin not necessary.  guideline?

Coumadin (warfarin) for life: I assume that you have been tested for a hypercoagulable state (e.g. Factor v leiden). Given your history, most doctors would place you on warfarin for life to prevent DVT and life-threatening pe.

Depends: It is all about risk benefit.  If there is no symptoms and collateral a are adequate, i would not see any additional benefit from rib resection.

Possible: Your surgeon will guide you.
Follow up  with Duplex ultrasound will be a guide that there is no residual clot or obstruction.
Also one needs to know about the other side and any constriction or extra ribs or bands.

Yes: Partial tear/contusion of surrounding tissue/ hematoma........Not impossible.
