i took suan zao ren wan food supplement for a week while taking millinette. could it affect the pill and if yes, how long should i used a back up for?

From what I learned: this Chinese herb is most often used for insomnia. There is very little reliable information about the interaction of many of these Chinese herbs with prescription medications such as the oral contraceptive Millinette. Personally I think it would be unlikely that Suan... would interfere with the effectiveness of your pill but I can't find data to support. Most cautious: back up until next period.

Good question: Because you can't! But seriously, it's because you don't have the cells in your skin that can darken with repeated exposure to sunlight. And that's an important (but not perfect) defense against aging skin and skin cancer So if you can't tan,stay out of the sun,keep covered and use sun block or a combination of these. If you don't like vitamin D supplements then 15-20 minutes of sun a day's enough

SUN-SENSITIVE: Sun-sensitity is common and may be due to medications or medical conditions.  The solution is to cover sun sensitive areas and use SPF >50 sun screens.  If itch progresses to rash then further investigation may be needed.  Anti-histamines (claritin, zyrtec, (cetirizine) allegra) may help.

Sunburn?: Get out of sun! Once indoors, put a cold, damp towel on your skin. Take frequent cool showers or baths. Use a moisturizer than contains aloe vera or soy to help soothe the sunburned skin. Chamomile lotion may help. A low dose OTC cortisone cream could also be tried. You can take ibuprofen if the pain warrants it. Drink extra water.  Leave blisters alone. Stay out of the sun until completely healed

Yes (rare): Solar urticaria is hives triggered by the sun.  This is very rare.  More likely are photo-toxic or photo-allergic reactions due to medications that when the person is exposed to the sun trigger a rash.  These are quite common and if confusing can be diagnosed by allergists or dermatologists.

Use sunscreen whenever and wherever skin is exposed to the sun.  Do not stare directly into the sun even with sunglasses.  Visual exposure to natural sunlight early in the morning can alleviate seasonal depression and generally give you more energy early in the day.  The sun can power your home.  Love the sun.
