Occasionally...: Mild nausea, some residual  sedation and/or disorientation, and minimal discomfort are the issues that surface most often postoperatively. That said, experienced anesthesia care providers anticipate these problems and do their best to prevent them before patients return to full wakefulness. Rest assured, though, these issues are easy to handle during recovery!

HIstory is key: Knowing a patients medical history and as much as possible about their heart function allows anesthesiologists to plan safe and effective surgeries. Addition monitors may be involved such as intra-operative cardiac echo and invasive arterial blood pressure monitors, but all these things help us to reduce the risk from the surgery and some of the medications used as part of the anesthetic.

Depends: There are many types of "heart problems" and all of them would have different risk factors. The risks could range from very minimal to severe, all depending on what the heart condition is. Also depends not just on anesthesia but also how major or how long the surgery might be. Would need much more information than can be reviewed in this type of forum.

Strange: There are no such thing as anesthesia overdose, especially if you are already at home. Specific medicine can be excessive but it is usually short term effect. Contact anesthesia department where you had your procedure, they will help with referral if appropriate or will provide guidance based on medications given to you.

Both are the same: General anesthesia combines both intravenous and inhaled anesthetics. All anesthetics will have reversible effects on heart function. The physician anesthesiologist and other members of the anesthesia care team work jointly to ensure patient safety, especially patients with heart problems. Patients with known heart problems should discuss those issues with the Anesthesiologist before surgery

looking to get an ablation done for my pvcs. however i am concerned that my rhr could be a problem for anesthesia. my average rhr is 48 to 60. issue?

Resting hr varies: Resting heart rate can vary depending on the medication you take, physical condition, and many other factors. If you take a medication that is a beta blocker (Coreg, metoprolol, Toprol, etc) they can lower your heart rate and sometimes reduce your pvc's. Your cardiologist can decide if an ablation could benefit you.

drank way more than i meant to last night (sunday) and had hangover today at work. i am having impacted wisdom tooth out tomorrow (tuesday). could this cause a problem with anesthesia and/or this procedure?

: Should not be problematic as you will be 36 hours out from imbibing alcohol, however, you should share this with anesthesiologist. Hopefully, procedure being performed in a surgicenter or hospital &amp; not in dental chair without dedicated anesthesiologist. There will be minimal if any alcohol still in your body as blood alcohol level halves every 4 - 6 hours.

i am undergoing a colon test next week and they will be using propofol. they used general anesthesia on me when i had a hysterectomy done and i had a lot of problems. was it propofol they used that caused the problems?

i ha one top wisdom teeth were food stuck and i'm planning to remove the top, but i want a second opinion if take the bottom too taking advantage of the anesthesia or if not recommended to remove the bottom ones as no problem presented so far. ?

Wisdom teeth: That is a decision to be made by your General Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon. Generally, wisdom teeth are removed if they are involved in a pathologic situation such as damage to the surrounding hard or soft tissues, bite problem, decayed/broken/infected tooth, etc. Sometimes when 1 tooth is removed the opposing tooth over-erupts creating bite problems. Talk this over with your surgeon.
