Possibilities...: If he has a fever, then it could be a sinus infection. If he doesn't have a fever, it could be allergies. It could also be a lot of other things. Definitely should see a doc for this.

Humidity: Use Normal Saline nose drops and then either wipe them off or use a bulb suction held outside the nostril to suck out the mucus. Do not put the bulb suction inside the nostril as it can damage the nasal mucus membrane and increase the stuffiness of nose.

Most likely a virus: It is cold and flu season and there are cold fronts moving about...Most illnesses are viral in nature. You can give elderberry or umcka. Vit d 400 iu a day will also be helpful and if things worsen, see your pediatrician.

Baby cold: The recommended interventions for a baby cold -- stuffy nose --is either sucking out the excess mucous, if there is a lot of it, with a plastic bulb syringe, which you can get at the drug store, and/or applying 2-3 drops of a nasal saline solution (available otc) which will shrink and dry up the nasal membranes. Otc cold & cold medicines are not recommended at this age--too many side effects.

Young babies are nose only breathers, so make sure that you keep her passages clear by using saline drops, encourage extra clear fluids like pedialyte, elevate the head of the crib she sleeps. Check her temp and if over 101, see pediatrician right away. Observe for sleepiness, irritability, decreased appetite. See your pediatrician sooner rather than later.

Allergies?: Sounds like allergies, probably to something in the house.  As the cooler weather comes, we tend to spend more time inside.  And we sleep with the windows closed, so we’re exposed to allergens as we sleep and awaken symptomatic.  Pet dander?  Dust mites?  Mold in a central heating system?

: Stuffy noses at that age are often secondary to environmental issues like dust/fragrances/smells. Avoiding anything that produces these like soaps, perfume, etc. can help. Using nasal saline drops to wet then suction the nose can provide them relief and reduce coughing.

Saline nose drops: Saline (salt water) nose drops may relieve the symptoms  of congestion. Also a vaporizer.There is currently no other safe otc medications for relief of symptoms at this age.
