Red throat.: If you took two Z-packs and you still feel sick in some fashion, then you need a re-evaluation to determine if a different antibiotic may be needed.  Or if testing may be indicated.

i have been on amoxicillin bid x 6 days for strep throat. my throat is still very red, sore, and now have little white spots on it. i still have 4 days left on the amoxicillin. should i go back to the doctor?

Accepted Answer

: The injury to tissues by the infection will take time to heal. The antibiotic is there to kill the germs, not repair tissue, which will happen at its own pace. If this was confirmed strep by test, the amoxicillin will kill the germ &amp; no additional treatment would be needed. If you really had a viral sore throat it will self heal over time.

i have had strep throat and red rash associated.  my sore throat has gone away but the rash is still present after 12 weeks!  when will it go away!?

Soon!: It usually last shorter than that! you might be irritating it more with creams and  home remedies!  heat rashes on top of it might  mimic scarlatina rashes! just promptly visit your md for second opinion ! regards!

my 6 year old has been on cefdinir for four days for strep throat. her breath still smells badly and is still red with white pus spots. is this normal? we skipped amoxicillin because it didnt kill it last time she had strep?

: She needs to take cefdinir for 10 days to eradicate the strep germs.  The efficacy of Cefdinir is not any higher than amoxicillin in terms of eradication of streptococci from infected pharynx.

Yes: Some people have minimal symptoms with strep as adults & some actively carry it in their throat & never seem to get sick from it. Without a fever, I am reluctant to consider it an infection but when there are both fever & generalized symptoms it is likely not a simple carrier state.

Strep throat: Strep throat associated with a rash can be seen with scarlet fever but the rash would be nonbumpy and generalized. The itchy buttock rash suggests an allergic reaction ? To antibiotics or some substance that came in contact with your buttocks. Erythema nodosum is another type of skin lesions that can follow a strep infection. A dermatologist is best qualified to evaluate you if the rash persists.

It is likely: Most of the time with strep throat there is whitish or yellow exudates, or redness and small red spots on the soft palate, and swollen glands in neck, the only way to confirm is by doing a throat culture or in office quick strep teast.

Strawberry tongue: Strawberry tongue might be part of onset of another strep infection.  Followup with your doctor if symptoms progress such as bad breath, redness in tonsil area, sore throat.

Amoxicillin rash: Although strep infection can cause the rash, Amoxicillin is far more likely to be the culprit.
