Headache, sore throat, red throat, swollen lymph nodes of the neck, nausea, vomiting, generalized achiness or malaise, even a fine sandpapery red rash known as scarletina can occur whether one has tonsils or not. Admittedly the chance of strep throat seems less after tonsillectectomy.

Infectious Mono : Is next likely the cause.  Wonder you have swollen glands on your neck.  Eb virus antibodies test confirms the suspicion.

the spaces fill up with food debris
and form stones.  You can remove them
by shooting the jet of a water pik at them.

Unlikley: You will get white patches on the tonsils from viral illness, but you can also get food particles in the crypts of your tonsils that appear white.  These will come and go.  Nothing to worry about.

Yes: If your partner had gonorrhea you could certainly get a  throat infection from it. It is more likely something else, but if the timing is right, it is a possibility.

Yes and no: The removal of the palatine tonsils can reduce the "intensity" of illness when you get strep in the future, but it does not prevent you from getting it. After the tonsils are removed, there are still tissues and glands in the throat that can become infected, with the same risk of immune mediated complications.
