See a dentist first: First, oral appliances--including a night guard--do not help you "stop grinding". They work to keep teeth from being further damaged from grinding: you are likely to grind just as much.  Worn teeth do not necessarily mean grinding. Acid reflux or gerd makes teeth worn down rapidly even with only occasional clenching or grinding. Please see a dentist to learn more about your condition first.

Orthopedic Dentist: The cause of grinding is rarely correctly treated.  Most dentist make a bite appliance for you to wear to keep from grinding away the teeth.  This is only treating the symptom and not the cause.   The usual cause is the roof of your mouth (palate) is too narrow in comparison to the lower jaw.  The muscles not finding their home position keep searching = bruxism results.

Probably not: Teeth grinding can be a result of many different things.  Some may include stress, poor occlusion, medications, etc.  It is not always possible to get someone to stop.  A nightguard will at least protect your teeth while you grind, and sometimes it will eliminate the grinding as well.
