See a doctor: He should see his doctor. There are several reasons why a 30 year old could have blood in his stool. It cold be hemorrhoids, rectal tear, or inflammatory bowel disease to name a few. This should be evaluated and not let go.

i have normal consistency stool one day, then constipated the next, or else very loose and a "viral" look. smells of blood, looks normal. ?

Accepted Answer

Recurrent pattern?: If you have alternating constipation and loose BM , then the condition is likely from irritable bowel syndrome.  Try eating more fiber and doing more exercise on a regular basis to see if this helps. If not, see your doctor.
If you were older or have a strong family of colon cancer or polyps, then you should get a colonoscopy.

can xifaxan (rifaximin) & probiotics cause your stool to smell "chemically"? it almost smells like motor oil. stool looks brownish/orange. no visible blood. stool culture/o&p = neg.

No: These drugs are used for liver failure. Liver failure, can cause smelling stools, especially with high ammonia levels.

Please see a doctor: This could be one of numerous diagnoses, from serious infection, inflammatory bowel disease, possibly malignancy.  Get seen by a GI doctor asap.  Hope you are treated and better soon.

good day, my stool is black and i have been taking iron supplements as well, my stool also smells of blood. what could be the problem?

Some thoughts: Iron supplements will darken stool color as a side effect7 may effect the smell. The only way to tell if this is due to blood would be to have the stool analyzed.

i have irregular bowl movement.  usually once every 2-3 days.  when i finally go..  it's dark and smells fowl (more than uaual).  also very gasy most of the time.  could there be blood in my stool?

Blood in stool: It is possible. When stool is black, and pasty it is usually a sign of blood  or when red. Occult/microscopic  blood is harder to detect. There are tests for it. If  foul smelling BM w/  gas may be food intolerance, gluten ,soy, may be gallbladder though usually have pain, or pancreas. Follow up with gastroenterology for hemoccult testing of stool and possible  scoping.

See a doctor...: Rectal bleeding can be a sign of potentially serious problems.  Your urinary symptoms sound like a possible uti.  See your doctor about both these asap.

gi trouble for months. tests = no major issues, dx'd w/ibs, told not to stress. more pain and blood than usual last 5 days, dizzy, stool smells awful + passes w/dark maroon-black gunk. normal for ibs?

Not normal: I would look into a provider who could do food allergy testing.  I do not know what all has been  done, but ibs is not associated with abnormal sools.

Blood in stool: Blood,especially bright red, May simply be from hemorrhoids or anal fissure. Other more serious causes include inflammatory bowel disease,diverticulosis or growths like polyps or even malignant tumors. Have your physician examine you for diagnosis although I doubt serious disease in your case.
