Abd pain/pale stools: The liver releases bile salts into the stool, giving it a normal brown color. pale, clay-colored stools may be due to liver or biliary tract problems, such as hepatitis or gallstones, possibly accompanied by jaundice or dark urine. Pale,  yellow, greasy, foul-smelling stools may be due to malabsorption of fat as seen with pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer or celiac disease.

Maybe IBS, but...: The GI tract has a very limited # of symptoms to signal its distress--nausea/vomiting, diarrhea/constipation, bloating, pain, fullness, bleeding, etc. As you know, many of these characterize ibs, but are also seen with inflammatory, infectious, ischemic, malabsorptive, and functional disorders. Directed lab work, imaging, biopsies, stool studies are appropriate in excluding non-ibs pathology.

i have had gastritis and feeling better now. had the endoscopy .all biopsies werr benign. doing great but last night ate a bowl of potatoes with butter. this morning stomach ache and pale stool. was this the potatoes?

: Typical GI  transit time is 30 hours so the change in character of your stool in the absence of diarrhea, is that the potatoes are still in the digestive transit pathway.  Was the endoscopy in the last 24 hours which would affect transit time.?

Get med evaluation: Have clay / pale colored stools  checked out. This can occur when the liver does not produce enough bile or when bile is blocked from leaving the liver.  Some possible causes include:  gall stones, bile duct cysts, strictures of bile ducts, hepatitis, some medications, cancer, etc.

Diarrhea: can be caused by a variety of agents, including certain foods, infectious agents, and body processes. If this persists, you may want to consider seeing your doctor to undergo testing for a definitive diagnosis. Hope this helps!

Pale stool/ pain: May be gallbladder,as clay colored stool is a sign of gallbladder disease. usually pain is about 1 hour after eating. As previous note follow up with doctor /urgent care today. Broccoli usually makes stool dark

See a doctor: This is significantly longer than usual for an uncomplicated viral gastroenteritis.  You should be seen and diagnosed and treated appropriately.  Good luck.

Unlikely gastritis: Bright red blood is usually associated with disease of the left colon such as diverticulitis or hemorrhoids, but the latter is not typically associated with gas bloating. See your internist for an evaluation.

More info: The first thing one thinks of is gallbladder but more info is needed. When do you get pain? What type? How long does it last? Anything make it better? Anything make it worse? Does food affect the pain? Have you had any surgery ? How long has it been there? Have you tried any medications? Did they work? Did you injure yourself? Pulled muscle etc? Has anyone done any studies? Need a bit more.
