Ginger: Ginger can reduce upset stomach. You can drink slightly flattened ginger ale or nibble on crystallized ginger. Or pour boiling water over freshly sliced organic ginger &amp; steep x 5 min in a covered pot. Sip.

i was told to take laxatives and now i'm in so much stomach pain its crazy. is there any way someone could be allergic to laxatives?

Unlikely: The first time i took a laxative, i thought i had appendicitis! hopefully the intestinal cramping will pass soon, and you will have a successful result. If the pain goes on for too long (many hours), or if you have a fever, then i would seek medical attention. Next time start with a smaller dose!

Laxative and cramps: What type of laxative s like colace, Mg citrate, Miralax, (polyethylene glycol) Milk of magnesia work by absorbing additional water into colon which in turn increases bulk, distention, osmotic pressure, perastalsis and cramping ( pressure + perastalsis)

Is she constipated?: A teenage girl can tell a parent if she has had a hard time pooping. If yes, then she has been constipated, and does need a "clean out". If she has been pooping soft or loose poops, every 1/2 to 2 days, without problems, then she is unlikely to be holding on to a big amount of poop (meaning little will come out with laxatives). The dr. Can decide if an enema is needed (they are over-the-counter).

May be impacted: You may have a stool impaction. This is a large collection of stool that has hardened to the point abdominal it's very hard to clear. You get stomach cramps as gas and fluid backs up around and stretching the colon. You should see your doctor about this. He may have to arrange for disimpaction. Or a G.I. Evaluation and colonoscopy. Good health.

Abdominal pain: Two weeks of symptoms calls for an examination by your physician. Simple constipation may cause mild discomfort or cramping, but severe discomfort, especially with abdominal tenderness, distension, or vomiting could reflect incomplete intestinal obstruction in view of pencil thin stools. Get reexamined by your physician, an abdominal surgeon or a gastroenterologist.

nausea, dizziness, light headed, severely constipated, severe stomach pain. laxatives and stool softeners aren't helping. will an enema help?

Consider going to ER: If you're having severe stomach pain and nausea/vomting, it's probably best you go to the ER to get checked out to make sure you're not having any bowel obstruction.

Could be: So wait till the effect of laxatives wears of, till then make sure you drink liquids.And then start with bland diet and increase
if it persists see your doctor.

Maybe: if you don't get better in 12 hours, or if pain severely worsens during that time, go to ER.

i take 100mg sertraline and have eating issues. i take some laxatives sometimes. i havereally bad stomach ache and pain in my side. is it safe to mix?

Accepted Answer

Need exam: Sertraline can cause constipation, although not a common side effect.  See your pcp without delay to find cause of "stomachache" and "pain in side." Tell doctor about your 'eating issues' and laxative use. All symptoms may relate, so details will help the doc. Don't be embarrassed. Hold off on laxatives unless prescribed  until you have exam.
