what can i do to cure a footdrop from being in stirrups long time?

Foot drop: Footdrop can be a complication of prolonged positioning in stirrups. The cause is prolonged pressure on a nerve in the foot. The body has a tremendous capacity to heal and will generally recover over about 6 months. The best thing you can do is foot exercises (see a physical therapist for proper instruction). After about 6 months, you are not likely to get much more healing.

Two likely causes: Positioning of your legs could have resulted in nerve compression (especially the common peroneals) pressure of the baby's body during passage thru the birth can could have compressed the sacral plexus, a large group of nerves to each leg.  Either way numbness can last from days to many months depending on severity. If in doubt about diagnosis, see neurologist and have an emg.

i have a sprained ligament. is it ok to wear my stirrup splint in bed?

Have healing problem: Wrong foods can prevent you from healing.
For next three weeks eliminate cereals, juices, sodas, corn products, banana, and pineapples. Also most patents that go to plant base protein feel much better. So eliminate chicken, turkey, beef and pork. See your doctor to have your Thyroid checked.
Add folic acid  400 mcg and Vit D3 2000 U. to daily food.
Just remember D3 is fat soluble.

Air casts do nothing: Air casts do virtually nothing. A functional forefoot  orthosis balanced to neutral is what will cure the problem. Be sure you do not stand in a mold to make it. You should be reclined and a plaster slipper cast used placing the foot back into neutral position to  make it.

Time to reevaluate. : Sounds like it is time for a change. Perhaps your physician should order an MRI to see the extent of injury. If the tendon is not compromised, then it may be time for rehabilitation.

Maybe not.: The brace is used to decrease your pain and increase stability.  If it is causing more swelling, it could mean that you are upright much more when you are wearing the brace and more swelling is generated, the brace is on incorrectly or is too tight, or that you don't need it.  Speak to the provider that gave you the brace.

You shouldn't.....: Unless in the stirrups you damaged the common peroneal nerve.  Most likely this is anterior tibialis tendonitis and it "feels" like a foot drop.  Give it some time to recover and you should be ok.

i had an ankle sprain two months ago. now i am having pain in p tibial. i have been wearing inflatable stirrup ankle brace for five weeks. the doctor said i should continue wearing itbut the physio said ditch. who's right?

Watch out: Not all ankle sprains are the same. If you have a high ankle sprain, some of the deeper structures going up above the ankle area between your fibula and tibia can get injured. This can take longer to heal. You also want to make sure the ankle is not unstable. If no to both above, then you do need a good ankle strengthening (proprioceptive) program.
