Try this: Granulomatous mastitis can be an ongoing problem.  The cause is unknown. Steroids can be effective in some, while others try non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen.  There is an association with granulomatous mastitis and colonization/infection with corynebacterium, a class of bacteria.  I have has a good response using a combination of steroids and Doxycycline for this problem.

have red, flat, patch on my face w/ irregular borders for 1 month. derm thought dermatitis, prescribed steroid - but would come back after ceasing steroid after 3 days. biopsied to rule out squamous cell in situ - what else could it be besides that?

Go back to your doc: So the good news is that your punch biopsy is clear. The bad news is that you're still suffering despite steroid cream. Best thing to do in this situation is to go back to your GP and tell him/her what you've just noted above so that s/he can work w/you to find solution, whether referring to another doc or trying a different medication.

Tissue Diagnosis: I presume that you had a radiologic study and/or examination that showed an abnormality for which a doctor recommended a biopsy.  While the above studies may be helpful, they are usually not 100% diagnostic.  A biopsy provides tissue to evaluate under the microscope for definitive diagnosis.

Depends: On the organ and diagnosis.  If it is for liver cancer, then usually a percutaneous (through the skin) liver biopsy is done (though not the only route) under direct visualization into the tumor.
