have been taking nasal steriods for 2 weeks, still no improvement in tympanic membrane retraction and tinnitus. what should i do?

Get repeat exam: If you know your TM's are retracted a physician must have examined you. TM retraction and tinnitus can accompany sinus infections / "head colds" as the inflammation can cause obstruction of your eustachian tubes (which drain the ears). Your doctor likely put you on a nasal steroid to attempt to reduce the inflammation. If you have allergies adding an antihistamine may help. Other meds. can help.

for 2 weeks ear blocked, hurts in elevator and has a roaring sound after i speak for 0.1 seconds. not tinnitus as the roar is just for a second and then stops. no wax or fluid. nasal steroid hasnt unblocked, no cold just covid 2 months ago. help?

painful neck strain getting out of bed 2.5 wks ago with full rgt ear, tinnitus. went on steroid&amoxycillin 6/10 days respectfully. ear 100% fine. follow on ibprofin for 4 days. neck still bit sore woke this morning with slight fullness in same ear. ?

Inflammation: Inflammation in the eustachian canal (connect inner ear with nasopharynx) can result in the trapping of liquid in the inner ear resulting in the "full" feeling. Try a decongestant and nasal saline washes to help clear the "fullness". If you develop a fever or pain in the ear, see a Dr as that may indicate that the infection has returned.

: Tinnitus can certainly be associated with Meniere's Disease, but this is not a simple diagnosis to confirm and expertise will be needed.  Contact an experienced Otolaryngologist who will conduct history and examination, and likely perform audiological/ otological studies.

: A referral to ENT and a hearing test is recommended. Avoid medications which may increase tinnitus. Review other  symptoms with your physician or during a virtual consult with HT. Watch for imbalance, dizziness and nausea

Time to visit: an EAR NOSE THROAT (ENT) specialist who may refer you to  an AUDIOLOGIST . There are methods using hearing aids  to reduce or eliminate these annoying sounds,  (often the tinnitus is a symptom of early hearing loss)  Hope this is helpful!

Maybe: I know that's unsatisfying - but true. Most providers say it should go away or diminish greatly. But 'may' is not for sure. It also could be that there's other reasons for it too and they remain after side effects are gone. Be examined for the simple wax type causes and ask that provider for ideas. Multiple things: Hearing loss, noise trauma, age, certain medications, jaw problems to name a few. The goal of all tinnitus treatment is to make the sound neutral. In other words to accept the sound and not get upset about it.
