Yes: The diagnosis of Crohn's disease does not preclude having a lap band placed.  There are many complex issues regarding this decision. If one is on immunosuppressive medications it increases the surgical risk. In addition, multiple prior surgeries and a history of fistula formation may also preclude having a lap band.  You need to review the risks and benefits very carefully with your physicians!

Lots: A lap band is a band that is placed around your stomach to limit the size of your stomach, making you feel full sooner.  You eat less and thus lose weight.  Liposuction is a procedure that removes fat from focal spots (most commonly the abdomen and love handles), but doesn't generally cause much weight loss, just shaping.

Lap band eligibility: The criteria recently changed, lowering the bmi eligibility for lap band.  Basically you will qualify if 1)your bmi is more than 40; or more than 30 with obesity related health conditions or 2)you weigh twice your ideal weight or are at least 80 (if women) to 100 pounds (if men) overweight.  Use a bmi calculator on the internet to calculate your bmi.

Hope for never: First reduce your weight to optimal levels by discipline reducing caloric intake with healthy food , regular exercises when failed only you need  one of the accepted procedure . Speak to your family doctor first .

Depends: The results vary according to the surgeon and the patient. Both can work although some recent reports suggest that lap bands no longer be done. Like everything else, studies can say what you want them to say. I prefer the sleeve gastrectomy for many patients but i'm sure that others will disagree. We are bothh right.

Ask doctor: It is not easy for a person to tell if his band has a leak.  If the band feels tight briefly and then doesn't, it could be a sign that there is a leak in the system. Your doctor would have to do a test under xray to confirm that. Fortunately , the band is filled with saline so it is not dangerous to have a leak.
