Depends: The results vary according to the surgeon and the patient. Both can work although some recent reports suggest that lap bands no longer be done. Like everything else, studies can say what you want them to say. I prefer the sleeve gastrectomy for many patients but i'm sure that others will disagree. We are bothh right.

Sleeve: In most recent studies the sleeve has shown better weight loss and resolution of other illnesses such as diabetes. Keep in mind however that the sleeve is not reversible. The choice of the right operation is made by you in discussion with your surgeon. Great question.

Define better...: The "success" of a weight loss operation depends on how it is defined. Is there a specific weight you wish to obtain? Want to get off medications? Want to curb you sugar intake? Depending on the expectations, the best operation changes for every person. In terms of excessive weight loss, the sleeve is superior to the band.
