No: Sulfasalazine is a class of drugs used to treat inflammation in the colon. Stenosis, or stricturing is usually a sign of severe disease. This will require a stronger class of medication (such as immunomodulator or biologic) or surgery to treat. If it is a stenosis in the setting of ulcerative colitis, this is more concerning and surgery and usually treated by surgery.

No: Stricture formed from scar tissue after the diverticulitis.  If it isnt bothering you and stool is passing through ok, then no treatment needed but watchful waiting.  If you start to develop blockage, then it is a surgical procedure, either with colonoscopy and dilation or surgical incision to widen.  Be aware that further diverticular episodes can worsen stricture and lead to blockage eventually

was given a scope test in colon area. it showed a stricture from earlier surgery 4  diver. do i need another test to find diverticulitis in same area?

More info helpful: A ct scan is very useful in diagnosing diverticulitis, without needing to undergo colonoscopy. Indeed, there are relative contraindications to performing colonoscopy when diverticulitis is active. Info that would be helpful in formulating a complete answer: 1) how long ago was your colonoscopy?  2) what symptoms are you experiencing?  3) what recommendations did you receive regarding stricture?

dx with uc 30 years ago. it's been off and on flares. now dx with stricture in sigmoid, recto/vag fistula, and flat dysplasia. should colon be removed?

Colon dysplasia ?'s: Sigmoid stricture with rectovaginal fistula can be surgically treated, but colon dysplasia can clearly be a pre-malignant condition.  Get a referral to a colorectal surgeon for a second opinion, as the technical surgery is complicated to ensure best results.

Recurrece: Uncommon problem, most  likely recurrence of disease not the scar , need endoscopic  reevaluation for presence of any malignancy'  initial balloon dilatation, if unsuccessful , followed by surgical resection  is required.

I would go for: ileo-rectal anastamosis.  You can always go back to colostomy.  Consult with your surgeon regarding specific advice in your case.

i have uc and developed a stricture in my sigmoid colon currently on asacol, mtx & humira. no real relief of symptoms. is ipaa only option?

No-many possibilitie: A stricture is a narrowing of the colon that can arise due to diseases of the colon such as diverticulitis, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, or as a complication of prior surgery.  Management may include endoscopic dilitation of the stricture  or surgical excision, depending upon the cause of the stricture.  I recommend that you return to see your surgeon for their expert opinion.
