Yes: If the dose of antibiotics was insufficient or the course was not long enough, yes, staph infections can recur.  The other concern would also be if the bacteria developed resistance while on therapy.   However, there is always a chance that some other organism has caused the infection; it depends on the site and the timing. I would discuss with your doctor.

See below: It depends what type of staph infection you are referring to.  An abscess would need drainage.  A cellulitis or soft tissue infection could be treated with oral antibiotics but if severe or associated with fever and toxicity intravenous antibiotics would be better until the sepsis was controlled.  Mrsa infection would require different antibiotics than methicillin sensitive staph infection.

how do i know if my staph infection is healing? ive been on antibiotics for about three days. it was either cellulitus or impetigo.

No redness: it should get less red and less swollen.  pain should go away as well.  basically the skin will look more and more normal and any discomfort should go away.  if it is not or it is getting worse/larger/spreading see your doctor.

i have been feeling sick for 5 days  sinus culture positive for staph aureus without white cells. are antibiotics the best treatment?

Unusual : It is very unusual to undergo a sinus culture especially with only five days of symptoms. Did your doctor actually insert a needle into your sinus cavity? If they just swabbed ur nasal cavity that is not a sinus culture and would explain the result. Staph Aureous without wbcs-inflammation is likely due to skin contamination and not infection. See ENT specialist given your chronic sinus problems.

STAPH Infection: Yes. It can be. But, it can also represent a need for surgery to drain the abscess. If you have any concerns, or if it is not changing you may want to discuss with your family doctor.

im on alprim or keflex for long term treatment for recurrent uti's. i usually have e. coli but sometimes staph?? i still get uti on my antibiotics!

Resistant UTI: Bacteria causing UTI vary widely in antibiotic susceptibility, and the more frequently UTIs recur or are treated, the higher the chance of an antibiotic-resistant infection. Resistance to both trimethoprim (Alrpim) and cephalexin (Keflex) isn&#x27;t rare, especially after repeated treatmnt. You need a urine culture with testing of the bug for the best antibiotic. See a doctor about it. Good luck!

Antibiotic Effect: Apparently your symptoms are from the Antibiotics.We can not advice you to stop the antibiotics as we do not know where the staph infection is and what antibiotic you are taking.And How many days you have already taken the antibiotics.
If you are really feeling sick and can not continue to take antibiotics.Then you contact your Doctor or followup in his office to change or stop the antibiotics

hello, can aquaphor healing ointment be used for helping the treatment of fissure and hemorrhoid rectally? can it be used inside of anus? thank you?

: Anal fissures and hemorrhoids are painful. Aspercreme Lidocaine can numb the area for a couple of hours at best. Aquaphor will just keep the area moist. Depending on the cause, you need to change your habits. If constipation caused this, you need to focus on eating a diet high in fiber rich fruits/vegetables and low in high fat foods and drink lots of water.

i have reoccurring/occasional staph cysts that form in my groin area and are treated with antibiotics. would a vasectomy be a safe procedure?

Accepted Answer

Safe If NO Infection: Any skin incision for surgery can be compromised by nearby active skin infection.  If you are not having any cysts/carbuncles then there's no problem.  However, any untreated pus containing cyst would increase the risk of an intrascrotal infection, something you do not want.  
More importantly: why are you having these recurrent infections?  Perhaps an infectious disease md could help.
