Trach care: I am sorry that your grandfather is not well. Trach care manuals for families may be found online. Keep the site clean and dry, humidification of the air keeps the passages moist and may lessen infection. Watch for signs of infection or trouble breathing and report changes to your physician.

Not good : Stage 4 any cancer is not good, some better than others.  With head and neck cancers though unlike some others, cure is possible with aggressive mutimodality treatment.  Usually without any treatment the tumor grows locally, cause local symptoms and metastasize to lymph nodes and distant organs. Consider at least palliative treatment, it can improve quality of life for some time. 6-24 months range.

If you quit now...: ...The chances of you getting a whole bunch of nasty diseases (of which throat cancer is one) go way, way down.

i had a total esophagectomy 4 years ago due to acid reflux. i still have acid reflux to this day even worse .can i get throat cancer from the reflux ?

Oesophageal cancer: Acid reflux causes stomach acid to splash up and into the lower portion of your esophagus. While your stomach has a lining that protects it from the acid, your esophagus doesn’t. This means that the acid can cause damage to the tissue cells in your esophagus and  throat. Sometimes the tissue damage from acid reflux can lead to a a marginally higher risk of developing oesophageal and throat cancer.

Know details: Unless surgery is emergency due to airway obstruction, most H&amp;N lesions which are squamous in origin are treated pre op with RT and if necessary chemo including Taxol (paclitaxel) and platinum.  If necessary high dose MTX used with leukovorum rescue.  Check to see if procedure is not tracheostomy to ensure airway during needed treatment.Lesions bestt reated with prior cytoreduction.

everytime when i speak loudly or continuously, my throat starts aching which resolves in 3-4 days and again comes back. throat cancer?

Not cancer: but you are clearly having trouble with use of your voice and this can be a significant problem over time.
I suggest you see an otolaryngologist (an ENT) and have her check your vocal cords. After you are assured that all is normal then you will likely benefit from a few sessions with a speech therapist who can show you how to protect your voice.

Smolders: The initial changes that lead to cancer begin years, maybe decades, before it appears, as evidenced by the fact that the longer a person has smoked, the greater the risk. It becomes visible to the skilled eye eventually, and when it first appears is usually curable if picked up fast. Good lcuk.
