Know details: Unless surgery is emergency due to airway obstruction, most H&N lesions which are squamous in origin are treated pre op with RT and if necessary chemo including Taxol (paclitaxel) and platinum. If necessary high dose MTX used with leukovorum rescue. Check to see if procedure is not tracheostomy to ensure airway during needed treatment.Lesions bestt reated with prior cytoreduction.

Be there: Don't share stuff you read on the internet or try to figure out the medical stuff. Be ready to help the family out. Transportation and errands often tricky during times like this when a family member is down. Hope the surgery is successful. If tobacco was a factor and you use tobacco, stop now is solidarity with the person you care for. Remind everybody that throat cancer is not contagious.

It is good to have 2: When in Doubt,, seek a second opinion. Treatment for cancer is not an emergency, so do not rush into any quick decisions.
