It may take months: Ankle/foot sprains are known to last longer than other parts of body because of their weight-bearing nature on every step you take. Mild sprain may last couple of wks, but severe ones may take months, good shoes/cushions, ankle support/aircast/braces may help. Elevate when u can. Motrin/aleve may easy pain/inflammation. If persistent/more severe, consult doc. My ankle sprain  x5 months-still sore.

Ankle sprain : I would say ankle sprains are drastically under treated.  You are 4 weeks post injury still with pain and swelling.  This cn lead to functional instability see your local podiatrist asap.

Not unusual: Ankle sprains may take several weeks -- not just 2 -- to heal.  Did you have and xray, and are you sure it was only a sprain?  Depending on the way your ankle twisted, various types of injuries can result -- including fractures.  Icing, rest, and elevation can help true sprains the most -- if you haven't had an xray or medical exam, it would be wise to do that.  Best wishes.

A good Start.: Still a little pain and swelling means that the ankle is still unstable. Two weeks is not enough time for a sprain of any substance. You may have to go 4 to 6 weeks for optimum recovery. Of course this is only guess work since you have not disclosed the severity of the sprain. You might try a little heat to speed the healing up.

Ortho evaluation now: If you have not already been evaluated by a sports medicine or fort and ankle orthopaedic specialist, you need to seek such an evaluation now. Most high ankle sprains, though slow to heal, should be resolved by 4 months. Stress x-rays and MRI may be indicated. You could have a concomitant injury to the cartilage within your ankle joint (mri best), and/or residual instability (stress x-rays).

Perhaps: Yu should be suing crutches and not stepping on the ankle which sounds like its not a simple strain but rather a grade two or three. Ice as often as possible. Keep it elevated when possible. Is it wrapped up? If not, sounds like it should until the immediate swelling goes down. Walking on a badly sprained and can lead to chronic lateral ankle instability.

Have it reevaluated: Was the ankle x rayed? Usually severe sprains are treated with immobilization. Was yours? In any event, have the ankle reevaluated by an orthopedist.

Yes: Soft tissue injuries can take a long time to heal. Ankle sprains can result in torn ligaments. When ligaments heal the scar tissue is not as strong as the tissues before tearing and may be longer allowing the joint to gothrough a greater range of motion.

No: If you had a grade 3 sprain of your ankle ( severe) then you shouldn't expect much improvement @ 4 days.Swelling, discoloration are the norm. @ 2 wks you should be better but it may take 4-6 wks. For it to resolve.Consider seeing an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation, x-rays to rule out a fracture and treatment guidelines.Best of luck!
