Spirulina side effec: Since spirulina is not regulated one can develop serious G.I. Upsets if the spirulina comes from contaminated waters. In addition, one can develop headaches because spirulina absorbs heavy metals from the water its found in.

See details: Spirulina is an algae rich in proteins, vitamins, minerals and carotenoids. Reported side effects include rashes, GI gas and bloating, mild fevers, green stools and sleepiness.

i take 10mg lexapro 1 a day & 1mg klonopin 2 a day for anxiety. before i started taking these meds, i always incorporated spirulina tablets (500mg) into my diet. is it still safe for me to do this? any bad reactions with the meds and the supplements?

Spirulina: There are no known interactions between spirulina and the drugs you take. I recommend considering taking L-theanine 100 mg twice daily for the anxiety. You could also take 5-htp 150 mg at bedtime and this will make your Lexapro much more effective. Lexapro doesn't increase serotonin levels but 5-htp does. The combination works well and some people can taper off the Lexapro and continue Lexapro.

Possibly: If the symptom began when you started the medication then it is probably related .Talk to your prescriber. There are common Side effects, but you as an individual may have any number of side effects that might be unique to you and not necessarily common or noticed by others .

W/or w/out: meds, seeing a mental health professional is best.  A clinical psychologist can teach you strategies for dealing w/social anxiety, e.g. self hypnosis, realxation response (see Herbert Benson book) etc.  Peace and good health.

Diagnosis &amp; genetics: provided your diagnosis is accurate you must have at least a pharmacogenetic  test to select your matching medication is a must. Then if an Ssri fails then Clinical experience suggests that SSRI non-responders may benefit from augmentation with benzodiazepines or gabapentin or from switching to monoamine oxidase inhibitors, reversible inhibitors of monoamine oxidase or gabapentin
