Spirulina side effec: Since spirulina is not regulated one can develop serious G.I. Upsets if the spirulina comes from contaminated waters. In addition, one can develop headaches because spirulina absorbs heavy metals from the water its found in.

Unclear: Rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that may help protect cells from damage. It contains b complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin e, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic acid. Can be contaminated with toxic substances called microcystins and absorb heavy metals from water source. Yet, no studies definitively proving health benefits so best to avoid.

No: Spirulina is chlorophyll-containing aquatic bacteria. It's been promoted for decades as being good for everything with essentially zero evidence. It's your money. If you're intrigued by supplements -- and it's interesting and there's some stuff that's real -- get with an evidence-based holist in your community.
